Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFT review
What is it?
The Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFT is a max performance summer run flat tire, and serves as original equipment on the 2012 (F30 model) BMW 3-series. Designed to run up to 50 miles at a max speed of 50 mph even after a puncture has resulted in complete air pressure loss.
Strengths and weaknesses?
The Potenza S001 RFT has adequate dry and wet condition performance, but lacks treadlife, and suffers from road noise.
How does the Potenza S001 RFT compare?
Insufficient data to allow for a direct comparison to the other max performance summer tire options. Anecdotally speaking, many F30 BMW owners have moved on from the Potenza S001 RFT and haven't looked back. Tires like the Michelin Pilot Super Sport and Continental ExtremeContact DW afford another level of performance, treadlife, and value.
Anything else to know?
If you can sacrifice run flat convenience, then there are notably superior options for your F30. The previously mentioned Michelin and Continental options are good starting points.
As far as max performance summer run-flat alternatives, there just aren't that many. The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP offers a handful sizes that may be a fit with your vehicle.
If you're asking us though, ditch the run-flat tech and go with the proven max performance summer performers.
