Dunlop Grandtrek WT M3 ROF review
What is it?
The Dunlop Grandtrek WT M3 ROF (ROF=RunOnFlat) is designed to deliver excellent snow and ice performance for crossovers and SUV's. Developed to be used exclusively in winter temperatures and conditions.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Users report very favorable snow and ice handling characteristics.
Not quite as capable in the deep snow, but that is to be expected when it comes to performance-oriented snow/winter tires.
Previous generation snow/winter tires are generally not quiet at highway speeds, but expect a bit extra road noise given the run flat technology.
How does the Grandtrek WT M3 ROF compare?
Direct comparative data is lacking. Dunlop has a positive and established reputation in the snow/winter tire category, so expect the Grandtrek WT M3 ROF to impress in adverse winter road conditions.
Anything else to know?
When it comes to run flat performance winter/snow tires for crossovers and SUV's, the options are limited -- just the Grandtrek WT M3 ROF and Goodyear Ultra Grip SUV RunOnFlat. Both are equally priced, but charge a premium over non-run flat alternatives.
We'd suggest that run flat technology is perhaps most appropriately implemented in the winter tire category, i.e. immobile and stranded in a blizzard is indeed hazardous.
Is the run flat tech worth a nearly $90 (per 18" tire) premium over excellent non-run flat options like the Pirelli Scorpion Winter? That's for you to decide.
If you can sacrifice a bit of dry road handling and performance, both the Bridgestone Blizzak W965 and Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1 are proven and excellent.
Install in sets of four only, or you'll be dealing with a potentially hazardous handling imbalance.
