Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat review
What is it?
The Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat (DSST=Dunlop Self-Supporting Technology) is an ultra high performance summer tire designed sport-oriented coupes and sedans, and sports cars. The SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat has been used as the original equipment tire for vehicles like the BMW 1-series and 5-series. Features run flat technology.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Dry traction is decent, but the SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat is below average across all other evaluative metrics. Comfort characteristics -- ride quality and road noise in particular -- are very poor, and treadlife is limited.
How does it compare?
Not well at all. Current user rankings have the SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat dead last in the ultra high performance summer run flat category.
Anything else to know?
As is the case with other "SP Sport" series summer Dunlops like the standard SP Sport 01, the SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat is reportedly prone to sidewall bubbles and structural integrity issues. This (sometimes recurring) issue has lead to widespread user dissatisfaction.
The SP Sport 01 DSST RunOnFlat cannot keep pace in terms of outright performance with current category leaders like the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport, and we know comfort, treadlife, and value fall far short of current standards.
For one more nail in the coffin, consider that the SP Spot 01 DSST RunOnFlat is approaching double the cost of excellent ultra high performance summer alternatives like the aforementioned Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport and BF Goodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2. Yes, you'll miss out on the run flat technology, but with the savings you could nearly put down a deposit on your own tow truck...
So for a wide variety of reasons, we highly suggest you look elsewhere.
