Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D review
What is it?
The Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D is a snow/winter tire designed for use on performance-oriented coupes, sedans, and sports cars. The Winter Sport 3D is perhaps the most popular performance winter/snow tire on the market.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Excellent snow and ice traction, and very good in wet road conditions as well. Ride quality, road noise, and treadlife are also strong points.
Dry condition performance is perhaps not quite as ideal as some of alternative performance winter/snow tires (see below), but far from deficient or inadequate. Around town on dry roads we were left with an overall favorable impression of SP Winter Sport 3D handling characteristics.
How does the SP Winter Sport 3D compare?
The SP Winter Sport 3D ranks seventh out of twelve performance winter/snow tires per user feedback. The mid-pack ranking is somewhat misleading as the snow and winter performance differential between the SP Winter Sport 3D and higher ranked options like the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-32 is minimal and arguably imperceptible in the majority of conditions.
By and large, performance winter/snow tires function as intended, and the SP Winter Sport 3D is no exception.
Anything else to know?
The SP Winter Sport 3D remains a performance winter/snow tire worthy of your consideration.
For superior all-around performance, and especially in dry road conditions, we would suggest the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4.
Install in sets of four only, or you'll be dealing with a potentially hazardous handling imbalance.
