Dunlop Sport Maxx RT review
What is it?
The Dunlop Sport Maxx RT (inspired by Racing Technology) is a max performance summer tire designed for performance-oriented coupes, sedans, and sports cars. The Sport Maxx RT is engineered with an emphasis on driver feedback, involvement, and handling precision.
Served as the original equipment tire for the 2015 Subaru WRX.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Above average dry and wet traction, and satisfying comfort characteristics. Many users report a very quiet ride.
Treadlife could be improved some, as could maximum/limit grip and handling.
How does the Sport Maxx RT compare?
The Sport Maxx RT falls just behind the top tier max performance summer tire category options in terms of outright performance in both dry and wet conditions. As a consequence, it currently ranks eleventh out of twenty-nine tires that comprise the category. (We'd suggest this rank is not entirely indicative of the tire's overall quality and value though.)
Anything else to know?
The Sport Maxx RT is much more reasonably priced than many other "Sport Maxx" line options from Dunlop. There certainly is an performance + value argument to be made for sticking with this OE Dunlop tire. Yes, the Michelin Pilot Super Sport is a superior performer and all-around tire, but it's also about 50% more expensive than the Sport Maxx RT at the time of this writing.
