Goodyear Assurance CS TripleTred All-Season review
What is it?
The Goodyear Assurance CS TripleTred All-Season is designed for four season use on crossovers, SUV's and light duty pickup trucks. Often purchased as OE replacement and upgrade tires.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Excellent traction and cornering capabilities in both dry and wet conditions. Snow and ice performance is also nearly best in class.
The Assurance CS TripleTred All-Season exhibits the highest road noise of any top tier crossover/SUV touring all season tire. Treadlife also falls a bit short as compared to top competition.
How does it compare?
In 2012 Tire Rack comparison testing, the Assurance CS TripleTred All-Season trailed the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia and Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season in final overall results. Testers praised the Assurance CS TripleTred for its wet condition grip. On the demerit side of the equation, the Assurance CS TripleTred was noisy as compared to contemporaries, and lacked handling precision.
In subjective user rankings, the Assurance TripleTred All-Season ranks fifth out of twenty category options. Here again, it loses ground on the competition on the basis of excessive road noise.
- Treadlife Warranty: 6 years, 65,000 miles
- Uniformity Warranty: 1 year, first 1/32" of wear
Anything else to know?
The aforementioned Pirelli is the clear superior performance option, but is also nearly $100 more costly per set than the Assurance CS TripleTred All-Season (in a common 17" size).
Along with the Bridgestone Dueler H/L 422 Ecopia, the Continental CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology is an equal money alternative with a couple of distinct advantages; namely, road noise and treadlife. Performance between the Assurance CS TripleTred All-Season and the Conti is essentially a wash, but crossover/SUV touring tires are a multi-year and year-round commitment, and accordingly comfort and treadlife are often high priorities. We'd give the nod to the Conti, but that's not to say that the Assurance CS TripleTred All-Season is not a fine option.
