Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar review
What is it?
The Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar is an off-road maximum traction tire designed for light 4x4 pickups and SUV's. The Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar is Goodyear's flagship off-road tire.
The distinguishing Kevlar technology helps to increase puncture resistance.
Strengths and weaknesses?
The Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar delivers exceptional performance in the intended off-road application.
Unlike the Goodyear Wrangler MT, which is a severe compromise on-road, the Wranger MT/R with Kevlar provides sufficient traction and handling in dry, wet, and snowy road conditions.
However, if used on-road, expect both significant road noise and limited treadlife. Goodyear says that the Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar is engineered for off-road expeditions, and users should probably take heed of that characterization.
How does it compare?
The Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar has a subjective user rank of fifth out of seven off-road maximum traction tires. The lower tier ranking has much to do with the on-road manners and comfort characteristics, and is not an indication of off-road performance deficiencies.
- Treadlife Warranty: None
- Uniformity Warranty: 1 year, first 1/32" of wear
Anything else to know?
The Firestone Destination M/T matches the Wranger MT/R with Kevlar in terms of off-road competence, and is definitely the more civilized on-road tire. The Firestone is also more affordable.
That is not to say that the Wranger MT/R with Kevlar is not a viable option for true, mostly dedicated off-road use. And the enhanced puncture resistance is a real plus for enthusiasts in certain off-road environments.
