Hoosier A6 review
What is it?
The Hoosier A6 is a racetrack and autocross tire engineered for sports cars. The A6 is engineered to perform in autocross, track day (HPDE), and time trial environments. Also suitable for road racing use on lightweight vehicles, and where cooler ambient temperatures will not allow the more race-oriented Hoosier R6 to reach optimum operating temperatures.
The A6 is a longtime favorite of autocross enthusiasts.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Grip within the intended applications is as phenomenal as one would expect. Many experienced autocrossers (in particular) prefer the A6 over all other class tires, and extreme performance summer options like a Hankook Ventus R-S3.
Wet condition traction is as abysmal as one would expect, but that's not a particularly fair criticism. If you find yourself on a wet road with the Hoosier A6, then a mistake has been made… blame the weatherman and/or your own judgment, don't blame the tires.
In exchange for the grip, you lose some longevity. The A6 does not have the treadlife of a Hankook Ventus Z214, for example. On the bright side, however, the A6 is good all the way to the cords.
How does it compare?
The A6 is the preeminent autocross tire, and in terms of sheer performance, is a cut above the rest of the field.
However, on a value and longevity basis, and therefore from an overall/well-roundedness perspective, alternatives like the aforementioned Hankook may have an edge.
- Treadlife Warranty: None
- Uniformity Warranty: None
- Workmanship and Materials Warranty: None
Anything else to know?
Limited sizes available, and may be found on special/closeout.
Even with special/closeout pricing, the cost is nothing to sneeze at…
The successor to the A6, the Hoosier A7, is now available.
If you live in an area that experiences true winter, be sure to store the A6 inside, or within an environment that is >32 degrees Fahrenheit.
