Hoosier R6 review
What is it?
The Hoosier R6 is a racetrack & autocross only tire designed for sports cars. While the Hoosier A6 is engineered to function in a host of performance environments, the R6 has a more singular purpose: road racing. The R6 is at its best in hot, dry conditions.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Best in class grip, performance, and handling characteristics.
Definitely requires temperature to be at its best. Not a tire that is optimum at pit exit.
Like the Hoosier A6, the R6 provides maximum amounts of stick, but lacks the longevity of a Hankook Ventus Z214.
Rain performance… Say what?
How does it compare?
In 2007 Tire Rack comparison testing, the R6 was edged by the BF Goodrich g-Force R1. The g-Force R1 reportedly provided superior grip, consistency, and lap times.
The Tire Rack results are not corroborated by years of user experience and data, which show the R6 with a sheer dry condition performance/grip advantage over every other tire in the field, including the g-Force R1.

Limited sizes remain available, and may be found on special/closeout. Price remains steep nonetheless.
The successor to the R6, the Hoosier R7, is now available.
If you live in an area that experiences true winter, be sure to store the R6 inside, or within an environment that is >32 degrees Fahrenheit.
We would advise that only advanced/experienced drivers with honed reactions run the R6. When the exceptional limits of its grip are exceeded, the breakaway characteristics can be quite immediate and violent.
