Kumho Solus KH16 review
What is it?
The Kumho Solus KH16 is a grand touring all season tire designed for luxury/sport coupes and sedans.
The Solus KH16 was engineered by Kumho with ride comfort and all weather performance as top priorities.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Good, but not exceptional traction and performance in both dry and wet road conditions.
Comfort characteristics are a high point with commendable ride quality and low road noise.
Treadlife isn't particularly strong, and wintry condition performance is insufficient according to most standards.
How does the Solus KH16 compare?
Users rank the Solus KH16 nineteenth out of thirty-five grand touring all season tires. While not completely outclassed by contemporaries, the Solus KH16 is starting to show its age especially when it comes to winter performance and treadlife. (More details and alternative options below.)
Anything else to know?
The Solus KH16 represents a previous generation of grand touring all season tire. Current top tier category options are almost invariably well rounded with true four season performance. As explained, the Solus KH16 offers good performance in multiple evaluative categories, but lacks wintertime capability.
What the Solus KH16 does have in its favor is initial value and affordability. However, keep in mind that treadlife is also previous generation, so long-term the initial savings may be cancelled out by lesser mileage per set.
For a more current grand touring all season option from Kumho, check out the Kumho Solus TA71. At or near the Solus KH16 price point, the General Tire AltiMAX RT43 (H- or V-Speed Rated) is also definitely worth a look.
