Pirelli Winter Carving Edge review
What is it?
The Pirelli Winter Carving Edge is a studdable winter/snow tire designed for exclusive winter use on a wide variety of vehicles, including sports cars, coupes, sedans and minivans, as well as crossovers and SUV's.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Excellent traction in both light and deep snow conditions. Wet condition performance is also a strong point.
Dry road performance is adequate, but of course not on the level of a performance winter/snow tire option like the Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3.
Ride quality and treadlife are both quite good, while road noise could be reduced some.
How does it compare?
Users rank the Winter Carving Edge second overall out of four studdable winter/snow tires.
In 2013 Tire Rack comparative testing, the Winter Carving Edge matched the Firestone Winterforce, but fell notably short of the General Tire AltiMAX Arctic (studded and non-studded) in final overall scoring.
- Treadlife Warranty: None
- Uniformity Warranty: 1 year, first 2/32" of wear
Anything else to know?
The Winter Carving Edge is reasonably priced as well. It's an undeniably good overall winter tire option.
But we would suggest that you also consider the aforementioned General Tire AltiMAX Arctic, which is a superior performance option for about equal money.
Install in sets of four only, or you'll be dealing with a potentially hazardous handling imbalance.
