Conceptually sound. That's the phrase that comes to mind when considering the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport.
The Grand Sport includes the 460 bhp V8 from the "standard" C7 Vette, drops weight (exactly how much we're not sure), adds aero, cooling, a tuned/upgraded chassis, much wider and stickier (optional) tires*, and anchorlike carbon ceramic-matrix brakes.
Yep, sounds like a plan.
If there is just one niggle, it's the Grand Sport's price. We're not complaining, but with a starting price of $66,445 a Grand Sport equipped with the Z07 performance package and any upgraded trim option will be approaching the Z06's base price of $80,395.
So if you're paying in the upper $7X,000 range for a well-equipped Grand Sport, can you turn away from an extra 200 bhp for just a bit more?
The Grand Sport is the latest addition to a growing list of track ready options coming out of the Motor City. We look forward to seeing how the Grand Sport stacks up against the Mustang GT350R and the like.
*A C7 Corvette with Z51 Performance Package has 245/35-19 front tires, and 285/30-20 rear. The Grand Sport: 285/30-19 front, and 335/25-20 rear. Like we said, much wider. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires come with the Z07 package, while the base Grand Sport gets the exceptional Michelin Pilot Super Sport.
