McLaren 570S: Less Technology, Less Perfect = More Fun?

11/3/2015

As suggested in our BMW M4 review, modern performance cars are becoming so technologically advanced that at road speeds, and under normal driving conditions, it's possible to develop a sense of detachment.

McLaren is an organization synonymous with engineering perfection and performance above all else (2015 Formula 1 season notwithstanding). When the MP4-12C was first released, journalists found that it was unwieldy and clearly out of character with the traction control off. Full driver control and discretion was effectively engineered out of the MP4-12C.

And so it comes as somewhat of a surprise that their latest creation, the 570S (with Pirelli P Zero original equipment tire), is engineered to be more about fun, interactivity, and driver engagement than sheer performance and technological advancement.

We think that they're onto something. In this Auto Express review, Steve Sutcliffe discovers the tangible advantages of taking a step back in automotive technology.
