Bridgestone Potenza RE070 review
What is it?
The Bridgestone Potenza RE070 is an extreme performance summer tire engineered for track use and autocross. Brings original equipment credibility to the table as the tire of choice for the Lexus LFA, WRX STI (certain model years), and S2000 (Club Racer).
MinimumTread.com recommends that for a variety of reasons including road noise, comfort, (accelerated) wear, and sometimes edgy handling characteristics, extreme performance summer tires not be used everyday. Simply put, these tires are best suited for "extreme" conditions; track, autocross, and limited street performance contexts.
Strengths and weaknesses?
The Potenza RE070 possesses average dry condition capability as compared to the competition, but falls notably behind when it comes to wet weather and comfort characteristics. And nowhere is the wet condition performance disparity more stark than when comparing the Potenza RE070 to the other extreme performance summer tires from Bridgestone. The Potenza RE070 is also the noisiest tire in the category per user feedback.
How does the Potenza RE070 compare?
There are three exceptional extreme performance summer tires from Bridgestone, and the Potenza RE070 isn't one of them. And the story doesn't get any better when comparing the Potenza RE070 to alternative brand competition. The Hankook Ventus R-S3, for example. In the extreme performance summer tire category the Potenza RE070 ranks way down in tenth out of eleven tires in the category.
Anything else to know?
We suggest that you look toward the outstanding Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, Bridgestone Potenza RE-11A, and Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R if you're after an extreme performance summer tire from Bridgestone.
