Continental ContiSportContact 5P review
What is it?
The Continental ContiSportContact 5P is a max performance summer tire designed for performance-oriented coupes and sedans, and sports cars. The ContiSportContact 5P aims to provide steering precision, cornering stability, excellent traction, and short stopping distances in all summer conditions.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Superb dry traction and performance, as well as impressive wet condition capabilities. Also reportedly is a very comfortable tire with high ride quality.
Some users are reporting limited treadlife as with the ContiSportContact 3 and ContiSportContact 5.
How does the ContiSportContact 5P compare?
Direct comparative data is lacking, but expect outright performance in step with the best that the max performance summer category has to offer. That said, we're not sold on the ContiSportContact 5P (see below).
Anything else to know?
Yeah, we don't get the ContiSportContact 5P.
Next to its run flat counterpart, the ContiSportContact 5P is the most expensive max performance summer tire in Continental's arsenal, and it's significantly more expensive than the sublime Continental ExtremeContact DW.
So for the extra money what do you get? According to Continental's own measurements and charts, fuel efficiency, handling, wet traction, and comfort characteristics entirely equal to the ExtremeContact DW, and less treadlife than the ExtremeContact DW.
There is a contingent of users that suggest the ContiSportContact 5P is just shy of extreme performance summer tire performance, but with the wet condition capability.
Until that's objectively demonstrated in testing or elsewhere, we'd suggest you save some money and go with a less expensive, and proven alternative in the category. Continental ExtremeContact DW, Michelin Pilot Super Sport, for starters. (Yes, even the Super Sports are less expensive.)
