Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical review
What is it?
The Dunlop SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical is an ultra high performance all season tire designed for performance-oriented coupes and sedans, sport trucks, and even sports cars that see year-round use. Served as the original equipment tire for the Mazda Mazda6 sports sedan.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Adequate dry traction and handling characteristics.
Across all other evaluative metrics, user data suggests that the SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical is below average. Wet condition capabilities are well off of the pace, snow/winter performance is lackluster, comfort characteristics are poor, and treadlife is limited according to many users.
How does the SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical compare?
The SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical has a subjective user rank of twenty-first out of twenty-four tires in the ultra high performance all season category.
From a performance standpoint, there is very little to distinguish the SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical from the equally unimpressive Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M.
Anything else to know?
Limited sizes due to the intended OE application.
Unlike some of the other OE tires from Dunlop, The SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical is reasonably priced, but still falls notably short of the value:performance standard set in the category. Ultra high performance all season alternatives like the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 and BF Goodrich g-Force COMP-2 A/S are setting the standard in the category.
There is a strong argument to be made for moving on from the SP Sport 5000 Symmetrical.
