Dunlop Sport Maxx Race review
What is it?
The Dunlop Sport Maxx Race is a streetable track & competition tire engineered for original equipment use on the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series. Can be successfully fitted to a variety of performance-oriented vehicles with large diameter wheels.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Users report excellent grip and handling, and strong braking characteristics. The Sport Maxx Race is also street-friendly enough to function as intended (street + track).
Some feedback suggests that while this is a dry & wet weather tire, the wet condition capabilities are a a bit of a compromise. Alternatives like the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo, and (especially) the Continental ContiForceContact are more surefooted in the wet.
How does it compare?
In a 2012 Sport Auto comparison test, the Sport Maxx Race ranked fourth out of five performance/track tires tested.
Its lap time was second fastest, but the limited wet condition capabilities pushed the Sport Maxx Race down in the final overall rankings.
As far as outright performance and grip in dry conditions, the Sport Maxx Race can hang with anything short of full-fledged r-compounds.
- Treadlife Warranty: None
- Uniformity Warranty: 6 months, first 2/32" wear
Anything else to know?
Limited to 19" and 20" sizes, and they're as expensive as they are fast. In 265/35ZR19 sizing, the Sport Maxx Race is about equal with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2.
Users report that the Sport Maxx Race performs best with pretty significant negative camber.
