General Tire AltiMAX RT review
What is it?
The General Tire AltiMAX RT is a standard touring all season tire designed for coupes and sedans.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Above average dry and wet condition performance, and good ride quality.
Off the pace of current category leaders like the Continental TrueContact when it comes to snow/winter capabilities and treadlife.
How does the AltiMAX RT compare?
In 2009 Tire Rack comparison testing, the AltiMAX RT bested contemporaries of the day and finished first overall out of four. Testers praised the AltiMAX RT for its positive handling and excellent wet grip.
Over the years the AltiMAX RT has dropped in the rankings due to the introduction of more modern tire technology, including its own successor from General Tire (see below). Users still rank the AltiMAX RT a respectable tenth out of twenty-two standard touring all season tires. It's aged quite well, but is now distinctly off the pace of the class leaders.
Anything else to know?
Limited sizes and availability due to the introduction of its successor, the exceptional General Tire AltiMAX RT43 (T-Speed Rated), which is arguably the best overall option in the standard touring all season category.
There is some money to be saved with this outdated option, but nevertheless we suggest that you direct your attention to the AltiMAX RT43 (T-Speed Rated). Some of those initial savings will be negated anyways by the limited treadlife of the AltiMAX RT as compared to the AltiMAX RT43 (T-Speed Rated). Not to mention, the significant performance advantage of the newer tire.
