Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max review
What is it?
The Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max is a passenger all season tire designed for sedans, coupes, vans and crossovers. The Assurance Fuel Max is a low rolling resistance tire, and through that technology aims to provide increased efficiency and fuel economy, along with four season capability.
Strengths and weaknesses?
Good dry traction and handling capabilities. Comfort attributes and road manners are also positives, but really just above average for the category.
The Assurance Fuel Max lacks the snow/winter performance of alternative options from Goodyear; especially the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred All-Season. While better than average, treadlife also may be lacking as compared to top tier passenger all season Goodyear options.
How does it compare?
In 2011 Tire Rack comparison testing, the Assurance Fuel Max was the second-most efficient tire, falling just shy of the Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 (H- or V-Speed Rated) on fuel mileage. Along with sound efficiency, testers observed good snow/winter performance.
On the demerit side of things, the Assurance Fuel Max lacked some comfort and wet condition traction as compared to contemporaries.
Users rank the Assurance Fuel Max fifth out of fourteen passenger all season tires. Data suggests that the Assurance Fuel Max falls short of passenger all season alternatives like the Goodyear Assurance TripleTred All-Season in terms of all-around performance and competence.
- Treadlife Warranty: 6 years, 65,000 miles
- Uniformity Warranty: 1 year, first 2/32" wear
Anything else to know?
The Goodyear Assurance All-Season likely provides superior all-around performance at a slightly lesser price, but lacks the low rolling resistance of the Assurance Fuel Max.
If you're asking us, a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush -- in other words, we'd take the initial cost savings and greater four season performance of the Assurance All-Season. The Assurance Fuel Max may indeed provide a marginal advantage in efficiency, but over the life of the tire that may amount to approximately the initial savings gained by opting for the Assurance All-Season.
