Pirelli Scorpion ATR review
What is it?
The Pirelli Scorpion ATR is an all-terrain tire engineered for SUV's, crossovers, and pickups that require a blend of on-road performance and civility, and off-road capability. Scorpion ATR strengths and weaknesses? Excellent performance and handling attributes in dry conditions on-road. Rain capabilities are also quite strong, but not on par with category leaders like the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO 2. Comfort characteristics are a positive, and road noise in particular is exceptionally low. Treadlife is also a point of strength for the Scorpion ATR. Traction is far from ideal in snow/winter conditions though. Data indicates that the Scorpion ATR struggles through winter's worst, including in deep snow or icy conditions. How does the Scorpion ATR compare? The Scorpion ATR ranks eleventh out of seventeen on-/off-road all-terrain tires per Tire Rack user feedback. The snow/winter deficiency is the primary cause of its lower tier ranking.
Anything else to know?
The Scorpion ATR is worthy of consideration if your winter performance needs are limited or non-existent. Off-road performance is sufficient by most standards, and dry road performance is close to ideal. Its comfort, and lack of road noise makes it an excellent daily driver and highway tire. The Scorpion ATR is reasonably priced as well. Just slightly more than the excellent Firestone Destination A/T. Treadlife warranty is reassuring. Just keep in mind that when it comes to wintertime you'll have to temper expectations, or stay southward... See also: Kumho Road Venture AT51, Nitto Terra Grappler G2 Before you buy...
