Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring Review
What is it?
The Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring is a standard touring all season tire engineered for passenger cars and minivans. The Tiger Paw Touring lands at the affordable end of the standard touring all season tire spectrum. It offers both initial affordability and long-term value in the form of significant treadlife. Indeed, Uniroyal claims that the Tiger Paw Touring is "The Longest Wearing Uniroyal® Passenger Tire Ever." So is the Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring a tire that will lure you in with a low price, but ultimately disappoint with performance? Or is this a rare instance of saving money on tires without a performance consequence? We dive into the available data and make a recommendation in this Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring review. |
Tiger Paw Touring strengths and weaknesses?
One of the first performance areas we consider when evaluating an all season (all-weather) tire is winter capability. Far too many tires are represented as all season, but fail quite miserably when Old Man Winter arrives.
The Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring is no snow tire, but data suggests that it provides adequate traction in light snow and wintry conditions. In fact, many users report sufficient grip in snow even up to 6" deep when fitted to front-wheel/all-wheel drive vehicles.
Based upon the available information, the Tiger Paw Touring is an all season tire to consider if your commute sometimes involves snow. (We really can't recommend proper snow tires enough though... See this Michelin X-Ice Xi3 review update to learn just how drastically superior snow tires are to all seasons.)
Tiger Paw Touring dry road traction and handling is perfectly suitable for everyday passenger cars and minivans. Same story in terms of grip in wet conditions. The Tiger Paw Touring's wide, circumferential tread grooves effectively evacuate water, and user reports of hydroplaning are virtually absent. Even in regions with torrential rainstorms the Tiger Paw Touring reportedly manages quite well.
By and large, and given proper rotation protocols, the Tiger Paw Touring also lives up to its mileage/treadlife claims. 65,000 miles on a set is not at all unachievable.

If there's one area where the Tiger Paw Touring appears to be a bit of an underperformer, it's in the road noise category. It's not the quietest standard touring all season tire, and the road noise only increases as the miles add up. If you're hypersensitive to road noise and require a quiet tire for everyday purposes, then the Tiger Paw Touring might not be your very best option.
How does the Tiger Paw Touring compare?
The Tiger Paw Touring compares favorably against the standard touring all season tire "field" in two important areas:
1. User satisfaction
2. Price
A survey of substantial user feedback reveals an overwhelmingly positive user consensus and excellent Tiger Paw Touring ratings -- 4.6/5 on TireBuyer.com, 4.7/5 according to Walmart users, 4.5/5 on Amazon, 4.5/5 via TireTest.com, etc. Without a doubt, far pricier tires have achieved far less user approval.
In terms of price, the Tiger Paw Touring offers a notable price advantage over top category competitors. It is, for example, nearly $70 less per set than the class-leading (and definitely excellent) Continental TrueContact in a 15" tire size. Jump up to a 17" tire and the price differential between the two tires is some $115.
However, right about equal in the Tiger Paw Touring's price tier is the General Tire AltiMAX RT43, which may be the best performance & value combination currently available in the category. Unlike the Tiger Paw Touring, the AltiMAX RT43 has gone up against, and held its own against top category competition in objective performance testing. It comes with a slightly superior treadlife warranty, and similar to the Tiger Paw Touring, is game for some real winter driving. For more info, see our General Tire AltiMAX RT43 review.

Anything else to know?
We’re tirecentric around here, if you didn’t notice.
And so we generally don’t recommend “budget” tires. That initial affordability is often offset by shortened treadlife, and a subpar, sometimes unacceptable driving experience as well.
Give your kid cheese sandwiches for the month (kidding…), turn down the heat, cut back on beer, do whatever you have to do to budget elsewhere in your life, just don’t skimp on tires.
Thing is though, Uniroyal is an established brand, American made, and the Tiger Paw Touring is a tire that doesn’t penalize you for the initial affordability.
The Tiger Paw Touring might not win any objective performance comparison tests against the best in category, but that’s not really a fair expectation anyways in light of how affordable a tire it is.
Instead, prospective Tiger Paw Touring buyers want to know if it will be compatible with their daily drive. And most indications are that the Tiger Paw Touring delivers:
- Adequate all weather capability, including snow
- Long treadlife with proper rotation
- Decent comfort (with road noise caveat)
- Handling stability in wet conditions and good hydroplaning resistance
- Very high user satisfaction
- Initial affordability & long-term value
If you’re looking for an everyday, all season tire that is comparatively easy on the wallet, the Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring should absolutely be on your radar.
Definitely take a look at the General Tire option too though.
