Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 R review
What is it?
The Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 R is an extreme performance summer tire designed for sports cars, and performance-oriented coupes and sedans. In contrast with a number of category alternatives, the AD08 R is represented as delivering excellent traction and performance in both dry and wet road conditions. Wet traction in particular is said to be improved over the AD08 R's predecessor, the original Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08.
MinimumTread.com recommends that for a variety of reasons including road noise, comfort, (accelerated) wear, and sometimes edgy handling characteristics, extreme performance summer tires not be used everyday. Simply put, these tires are best suited for "extreme" conditions; track, autocross, and limited street performance contexts.
Strengths and weaknesses?
The AD08 R possesses dry condition traction and handling characteristics that are on par with the best in class.
Wet road grip is far better than most, though hydroplaning resistance could be improved some.
Ride quality is well above average while road noise is neither high nor low, and certainly satisfactory for a tire of this sort.
By any fair standard, the AD08 R is an exceptional and well rounded performance/track tire with no noteworthy deficiencies.
How does the ADVAN Neova AD08 R compare?
The AD08 R ranks third out of twelve extreme performance summer tires per user feedback. Its overall competence makes it a viable alternative to the benchmark (and number one user ranked) Bridgestone Potenza RE-11.
In 2014 Tire Rack comparison testing, the AD08 R just edged the Hankook Ventus R-S3, and fell just short of the Dunlop Direzza ZII Star Spec and BF Goodrich g-Force Rival in final overall scoring.
Anything else to know?
The AD08 R's wet condition capabilities put it into a limited class within the extreme performance summer tire category. If you want performance at the track rain or shine, the AD08 R is one of the very few tires that can deliver in both environments.
Pricing is typically high given the tire's class and attributes, but fairly priced in relation to the competition.
We recommend the AD08 R.
If you live in an area that experiences true winter, be sure to store the AD08 R inside, or within an environment that is >32 degrees Fahrenheit.
